Biological Sciences

Mission College Biological Sciences students learn about all the organisms that are around us every day. They learn about cells, the human body, infectious diseases, biology and ecology of the earth and the human body. Our biological science classes are transferrable to the four-year school of your choice. 

  • Earn an associates in science degree for transfer (AS or AS-T.)
  • Take courses that satisfy UC and Cal State transfer requirements.
  • Work towards a career in health care, research or academia.
  • Participate in field studies in the greater Bay Area and Costa Rica.

Classes to Consider
BIO 014 • Intro to Neuroscience

Are you interested in how the brain works? Students who take this course will walk away with a basic understanding of the structure and function of the brain, and will learn about current research on hot topics in neuroscience such as sleep, learning, Alzheimer's disease, autism and mood disorders. This course is fully transferable to UC and CSU.

BIO 032 • California Plants & Animals

Get hands-on learning about plants and animals in local ecosystems through field trips and lab studies. CSU and UC transferable.

Not too Early to Think About Spring Break 2021!

Tropical Ecology Trip to Costa Rica

The class will meet once on campus during the Spring semester and travel to Costa Rica during Spring Break,  March 27- April 3, 2021.  Students will have the opportunity to skywalk above the rainforest canopy, bird watching, visit a butterfly farm, and take night hikes to see and hear the amazing rainforest after dark.
