Mission College Academic Support Center tutors are from a wide range of disciplines
and backgrounds. All peer tutors participate in rigorious, ongoing training in accordance
with the College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA) standards. To work at the Academic Support Center, all peer tutors must complete
the requirements for the Certified Tutor certification (CRLA Level I) by completing a 1.5-credit training course, INS 010.
Many CRLA Level I certified tutors also pursue the Advanced Tutor Certification (CRLA Level II) via an additional 1.5 credit course, INS 015, to develop
a deeper understanding of the underlying philosophical and psychological aspects of
successful tutoring and mentoring.
